Nest VS Hive Smart Thermostat

If you have been looking through the smart thermostat market, you will have come across the two top brands- Hive and Nest. At first glance, they both seem very similar, so it can be hard to know which once you should install. We have created a handy guide to help you decide which is right for your home.

Appearance and design

Nest thermostats have won awards for their appearance, as they look classy and sleek. The metal and glass front mean you would be happy to have this thermostat on display in your home, rather than feeling you have to hide it away. They are also incredibly easy to use, with practical design features at the forefront.

Hive has also worked hard to improve the look of their thermostats, as original models look old-fashioned and out of place. Their current thermostats look much more attractive and can be personalised to suit your decor. Again, they are easy to use with an attractive design.

Overall performance

Both smart thermostats work accurately, which is why they are both the best in the market. Both apps are also stylish and very easy to get to grips with. The Nest thermostat works by 'learning' how you like your heating, so it doesn't work as effectively straight away. In comparison, the Hive thermostat needs to be manually set up, so works great immediately. However, the 'learning' feature created by Nest means your thermostat will be smarter in the long run, which is arguably a better option.

Pricing

For Hive thermostats, you can pay £180 and install the thermostat yourself, or pay £249 for the thermostat and a professional installer.

With Nest, the thermostat costs £199. Again, you can install this yourself for free, or pay to get it installed by a professioanl. This additional cost will range between £50 and £100. Paying this fee makes Nest slightly more expensive.

The prices are very similar, so neither one should be offputting.
